Yellow Ostrich – Whale

I can best describe this track from the Yellow Ostrich as a rather odd blend of The White Stripes, They Might Be Giants & Sufjan Stevens all mixed together. It has the very raw edge sound you would expect from The White Stripes mixed with the vocal style that is most commonly heard on They Might Be Giants music with the arrangements and pop sensibilities of Sufjan Stevens. What does this amount too? A very endearing  track with lo-fi rattles and delicate harmonies.  This track can be found on Yellow Ostrich’s 2010 full length release, “The Mistress”.

Taken from Allmusic.com bio:
Yellow Ostrich is the solo project of the Chairs’ frontman Alex Schaaf, who makes lo-fi indie pop on his four-track recorder. After relocating from Wisconsin to New York, Schaaf self-released a full-length album, titled Wild Comfort, in January of 2010. It was quickly followed by a series of EPs — Fade Cave EP, The Morgan Freeman EP, and The Serious Kids EP — which were made available for free download.
