Yellow Ostrich – Whale

I can best describe this track from the Yellow Ostrich as a rather odd blend of The White Stripes, They Might Be Giants & Sufjan Stevens all mixed together. It has the very raw edge sound you would expect from The White Stripes mixed with the vocal style that is most commonly heard on They Might Be Giants music with the arrangements and pop sensibilities of Sufjan Stevens. What does this amount too? A very endearing  track with lo-fi rattles and delicate harmonies.  This track can be found on Yellow Ostrich’s 2010 full length release, “The Mistress”.

Taken from bio:
Yellow Ostrich is the solo project of the Chairs’ frontman Alex Schaaf, who makes lo-fi indie pop on his four-track recorder. After relocating from Wisconsin to New York, Schaaf self-released a full-length album, titled Wild Comfort, in January of 2010. It was quickly followed by a series of EPs — Fade Cave EP, The Morgan Freeman EP, and The Serious Kids EP — which were made available for free download.

Mirah – The Garden

In case you missed my previous post out Mira, here is another track from this charming singer/songwriter called, “The Garden”.Lyrics:

Oh oh i really wanted that thing
I just want to sing
I love you baby
Won’t you bring
All the flowers you
Find out in the garden
Don’t tell me the truth
That your heart has hardened

But you don’t want me anymore
How can it be
Look what you’ve done to me

Oh oh
Oh oh the bee does quickly sting

I was wondering
If you could maybe darling
Think? I’d give everything
If you’d grant my love a pardon
And all the fruits
Again would fill the garden

But you don’t want me anymore
How can it be?
Look what you’ve done to me

Oh oh
Oh oh, oh oh oh oh (and so on)

Lykke Li – Little Bit

From Sweden Stockholm comes 21 year old exuberant, indie, lo-fi pop singer Lykke Li. She just recently wrapped up touring with Peter Bjorn and John as their opening act. Her sound is something between Lily Allen and Peter Bjorn and John.

Lykke Li started dancing ballet when she was five years old and spent many years focusing on dancing. But she also started to write poems almost as soon as she learned how to write. And have been making music since her young teens.
She released her debut three track EP Little Bit in Sweden in the end of September on her own label LL Recordings.
The EP and forthcoming album is produced by Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn & John. Being recorded in both Stockholm and New York.
After a few recent shows in New York, Lykke Li is currently one of the most talked about new artists.

Nice lo-fi pop sounds from Swedish singer Lykke Li.
