Longwave – Sirens in the Deep

Great indie rock from these boys (aka Longwave) from New York, who have a special ability of making very emotionally charged indie rock.   Reminds me at times of Death Cab for Cutie.

last.fm bio:

Since 1999, Longwave has been one of the New York City’s leading exports. After the success of Endsongs , their 2000 independent release, the band signed with RCA Records and began work with producer Dave Fridmann, known for his efforts with the Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev. The resulting album, The Strangest Things, led to critical raves and tours across all parts of this earth with the likes of The Strokes and The Vines. Longwave followed up on the success of The Strangest Things by entering the studio in 2004 with famed producer John Leckie, whose work with Radiohead and Pink Floyd endeared him to the critical taste of the band, and There’s a Fire was released in 2005. With a return to the studio planned for late 2007, Longwave finds itself on the list of indispensable listening for the first part of this millennium. Expect them to stay there.

Beautiful track from Scarlett Johannson’s debut album called “Anywhere I Lay My Head”. This track was originally recorded by Tom Waits and can be found on his 1988 album “Big Time“.

from wiki:

Anywhere I Lay My Head is the debut studio album by actress Scarlett Johansson, released through Atco/Rhino Records on May 20, 2008. Dave Sitek (of TV on the Radio) produced the album, and David Bowie contributed to two tracks, “Falling Down” and “Fannin Street.” Anywhere I Lay My Head features four songs written by Tom Waits, six songs written by Tom Waits & Kathleen Brennan and one original composition, “Song for Jo.”[1] The album has received very mixed reviews, as epitomized by a 2/10 in The Times and an 8/10 in NME.[2]

Ghosthustler – Only Me To Trust

80’s esque synth lines and a booty shake rhythm make this track.   Ghosthustler is from Dentron, Texas and produces some get up and dance tracks.   However, recently one member from the group has left (Alan Paloma), but Ghosthustler lives on and promises the following:

“With respect to Alan’s decision to leave the band, we’ve axed all the songs with his vocals. Don’t fret though!!! Look forward to our new single that will blow up on the scene in about 2 weeks. -Ghosthustler” (taken from their myspace page)
