Just fresh from their 2nd full length release titled, “When Animals Stare” is this succulent and tender track from The Black Ghosts who have a certain penchant for mixing electronics elements with indie sensibilities. The best description I can come up with is think Andy Gibb (of Bee Gees fame) meeting up with Hot Chip.
Back again with another excellent track from Black Light Dinner Party (BLDP). If you dig Miike Snow, then this group is highly recommended. If you missed my previous post on them, you can read/hear it here. Vocals and production just suck me in and I get lost the melancholy of it all. To borrow a cliched term from baseball, these guys are batting a thousand.
Black Light Dinner Party’s second release Small Boxes highlights the foundation of their sound – thick, off-kilter beats, saturated basslines and vintage electronics paired with glowing harmonics, breathing vocals and elegant, heartfelt arrangements. The first piece of music since their debut single, ‘Older Together’, which hit #3 on hypemachine in it’s first week, Small Boxes continues the BLDP tradition – LA beats rolling along with bohemian ease, New York synths on a frosted Sunday morning and Lush Parisian melodies, always with a taste for the bittersweet.

The Buzz – “This mystery project is comprised of four anonymous producers, and their immaculate first offering…certainly sounds like they know their way around a mixing desk.”

“…You might not be prepared for what they have done here with Black Light Dinner Party‘s catchy-as-all-hell “Older Together….”
In “Erase”, you can hear the Depeche Mode and 80’s synth pop influences but there’s more too this track than just that. Revolution 9 incorporates more modern dance pop aesthetics in “Erase” and in doing so elevates their sound to something quite special.
