Hayden James – Permission To Love

JamesH

A big band for me growing up was Art of Noise.  I loved their 12″ singles.  I would consistently play them when I was young, so anything that sounds to my ears as an ode to Art of Noise, be it even a small little sample, is enough to catch my ears.  Which is case in point from this track from Hayden James.  It’s the vocal maniuplation of the hook, “I give permission to love” that makes me happy.  Simple, yes, but it’s what I like.

Short bio:

Moko is a 21 year old soul singer from New Cross in London.
Having recently finished her degree at Goldsmiths and put her first song (Summon The Strength) live on Soundcloud 8 weeks ago, she has since filled her debut show at Dalston Birthdays, been played on Radio 1/6Music and been booked for Vice’s Hello 2013 show, Glastonbury, Jamie Lidell’s Oval Warehouse show and Boiler Room (where she’ll appear with her hero Neneh Cherry).
Moko produces her songs with a loose collective called Imposters, who hail from the same SE London postcode as Moko and work with any gear “as long as it’s older then them”. She describes her music as “an update on gospel, soul and house records I heard as a kid in the 90s – or just soul music mostly”.
You can catch her this Saturday at midnight in Brighton Coalition as part of The Great Escape.
