Yelle – J’veux Un Chien

The the title translates to “I Want a Dog” but the song is not literal. The tune is about wanting to be with someone who is obedient but also knows when to take the reigns when pleasurable. Like I said, the song is not about having a pet dog. More like a pet male.

On the music front, Yelle knows how to craft a tune from beginning to end. Love that opening lead synth that ducks in time to push the beat ahead. Then the voice drops in without haste and we are off and running with some tension and bass. The chorus builds on the original theme set in the intro and concludes with satisfying release. This track can be found on their latest release L’ère du verseau (The Age of Aquarius) which is a great come back from a six year break.

Swore Off – The Ladder

The stand out element on this new tune from Swore Off is the catchy chorus. Add to that is the mid tempo beat, mellow guitar and synth lead line, which sounds like a muted bell sound. All-in-all it combines to make a haunting tune with warm vocals.

Joe Valentine – Free

For whatever reason, this track reminds me of the sound track to The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio. Has that laid back chilled vibe that dominated that sound track which had the stand out track from Orbital. It’s probably the reversed string pad sound that kicks off this track and the spoken word. However we depart the tropical island in short order for a more rock infused chorus section that is catchy and infectious. Fans of Whitey will find plenty here to like as well.
