Kitten Heel – Needs To Go

A sonic love letter to 70’s disco and punk with an 80’s esque synthpop vocal delivery. Yes, they seem to have captured three decades and several genres all rolled into one. Has a bit of a tropical feel but is pushed by a disco beat and a synth bassline. Think LCD Soundsystem meets Satin Jackets meets an 80’s indie pop lead singer.

The Riptide Movement – Fall A Little More In Love

Has a strong Brit Pop vibe with a ting of The Cure on this track from Ireland band, The Riptide Movement. The melody at times reminds me of Pulp’s ‘Common People‘. However, this one has a bit more grit on the guitar. I love the synth lead line that runs in the chorus. Of course, this chorus crushes it and Malachy Tuohy does an exquisite job on the vocals. I’ve had this tune on repeat now for about ten times and counting. Definitely making my best of 2020 list.

WRENN – Maggie Gylenhal

Track reminds me a bit of The Cure in terms of the guitar and the style of the track. It has a catchy chorus and rocking beat that is never over bearing but fits perfectly. The lyrics talk about the love of the 90’s and how everyone wants those days to come back. According to the artist her inspiration for the track was after joining TikTok and noticing a resurgence of 90s fashion.
