James Carter – Almost Love (Feat. Dominic Neill)

For fans of Disclosure, Rufus Del Sol, Regard

Elegant house number from James Carter. It’s gorgeous vocals from Dominic Neill ride along a streamlined beat and grooving bass. This combo is magic and I hope they collaborate again. James Carter is a producer from the UK. Dominic Neill is a South African, Johannesburg based, Singer/Songwriter and Idols Season 8 top 7 contestant. You can also find Dominic Neill lending his talents to Roxy Tones – Dancing in the Corner.

Yelle – J’veux Un Chien

The the title translates to “I Want a Dog” but the song is not literal. The tune is about wanting to be with someone who is obedient but also knows when to take the reigns when pleasurable. Like I said, the song is not about having a pet dog. More like a pet male.

On the music front, Yelle knows how to craft a tune from beginning to end. Love that opening lead synth that ducks in time to push the beat ahead. Then the voice drops in without haste and we are off and running with some tension and bass. The chorus builds on the original theme set in the intro and concludes with satisfying release. This track can be found on their latest release L’ère du verseau (The Age of Aquarius) which is a great come back from a six year break.

Scott Helman – Lois

Not only does this track sound killer but the lyrics are fun and acknowledges the strength we all get from our own ‘Lois’. The track plays on the theme of there is always a strong woman behind a strong man. In this case, Supermans’ Lois.

Chorus:

Superman never would’ve flown as high without his Lois

You’re with me when I’m way up in the sky or at my lowest

You got a love, stronger than steel, lifting me up, that’s why I feel like

Superman never would’ve flown as high without his Lois

Lois

The track has a fun energy and at times reminds me of an upbeat Vampire Weekend tune. For fans of Vampire Weekend @ScottHelman
