Premiere: Midnight Mystery Club – Run

MidnightMysterClubThis track is so good and smooth.  Vocals remind me a bit of Peter Gabriel and the song is effortless.  It sports a relaxed groove and tempered synths.  One of the best tracks I’ve heard this year.  Fans of Cut Copy, Empire of the Sun and Miike Snow should dig this one.

NOTICE: Midnight Mystery Club has made this track available as a free download to Audiodrum listeners!  This is for a limited time only.

Biography:

David Paul Newell honed his craft at creating dance hooks writing for DJs like Michael Gray (of Full Intention) and The Shapeshifters. In 2015 he started the side project Midnight Mystery Club. Named after a secret bicycling society in San Francisco California, near his home town.

This new solo project granted the freedom to indulge in his obsession with late 70s and early 80s songwriting. The type of transcending and timeless songwriting pioneered by artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Earth Wind & Fire, George Benson, Prince, Bobby Caldwell, Tears for Fears, Alan Parsons, Eurythmics, The Cars, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, 10cc, Sade, Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins.

Starring ethereal synthesizers and hypnotic bass grooves. Sophisticated Modern House drums mixed with natural percussive elements add to the enchantingly dense compositions . Inspired by the textured productions of artists like Empire of The Sun, Daft Punk, MGMT, Phoenix, St Lucia, and M83.

His other-worldly gift at creating catchy melodies caught the ear of legendary Ibiza DJ Pete Gooding who signed the firstMidnight Mystery Club track to his label, Secret Life. The song ‘Keep a Beat’ was one of the few down tempo demos recorded asMidnight Mystery Club. The track was mixed by lounge master Steve Miller (AKA, Afterlife) and released as a single world wide in the summer of 2015. It has been featured on multiple compilations including Universal Records release – Cafe Mambo Ibiza Sunsets 2015 and Sheer Rocks: Music on The Rocks Volume 1, 2016.

In late 2015 David announced he had begun working on a independently funded Midnight Mystery Club album with Michael Gray serving as producer and collaborator.

PRODUCTION: House DJ and Grammy Nominated Producer Michael Gray (‘The Weekend’, ‘Borderline’, also of Full Intention). Mastered by Mike Marsh at the Exchange London (Empire of The Sun, Phoenix).

Lyrics:

You doubt your place on the earth
The price of your worth
A love that is true we both know
But the fear that keeps you deprived
So you don’t realize
The one thing you need so you turn and go

After you, if I’ve got to I will run right

The tears that pour from those eyes
Cause he pierced his side
So you could be known so much more
And the grave has faded away
Cause love took it’s place
The price that was paid for your soul

After you, if I’ve got to I will run right

If I’ve got to I will run to you

ANIMA – The Fire (Zuric Remix)

Anima

Zuric puts a darker light on this track from Anima, which is rather engaging.  If you’re a fan of the Knife, be sure to listen to this track.

Also, the original of this track is worth checking out as well.

EMBRZ – Breathe

Embrz

As the title suggests, you’ll need to let this track breath till the 1 minute mark where it starts to pick up the pace and find it’s true niche.  Melancholy flavor with a house beat and beautiful synths adorn.

bio:

EMBRZ, the brainchild of 24 year old Dublin-born Jack Casey, first began writing music at 15, playing guitar in a band with school friends. With an eclectic interest in music, it was an early deadmau5 track which introduced Jack to the world of electronic music. Inspired by this discovery and other artists alike, the self-taught musician began producing out of his college bedroom, posting tracks on Soundcloud simply to share with friends. Combining elements of dance with downtempo music, Casey developed a signature style that underpins the unmistakable emotionally charged EMBRZ sound. Soon those same friends on Soundcloud began sharing this new sound and before long the blogs aficionados and Youtube influencers were fans as well.

Once his first official remix of Ellie Goulding’s ‘How long will I Love You’ crossed the million play mark, as well as his remix for The 1975’s ‘Settle Down’, EMBRZ was here to stay. Since then a string of Hype Machine number 1’s have grown his fan base both with casual fans and tastemakers alike. He recently released his first original track ‘Silent’ showcasing his talents in both songwriting and production (he both wrote the vocal and produced the track). Following the release of ‘Silent’ came the single ‘Lights’ featuring Pennybirdrabbit whose previous collaborations include Skrillex, Porter Robinson, and Dillon Francis. EMBRZ closed out 2015 by delivering the sentimental and beautiful single ‘Home’ ft. Eleni Drake, which placed in the top 5 on Hype Machine. In May 2016 EMBRZ was tapped by global superstar Carly Rae Jepsen to lend his considerable remixing skills to her ‘Run Away With Me’ official remix package.

With several more releases, remixes, and performances planned through the rest of the year, it’s exciting to see what’s next for the young Irish producer.
