Color Theory – Headphones

Adjustments2

Right on the heels of the release of Adjustments Pt. 2 EP from Color Theory, which is set to be released tomorrow, we have the first single entitled, “Headphones”.   Love that rubber bass that smudges and oozes and the pseudo-guitar licks.

Color Theory – Song Named After a Girl (Odd Year Remix)

I just finished two remixes which you can listen to on  soundcloud.  I did them both for  Color Theory‘s new remix EP titled, “The Silence.”

Color Theory – Song Named After a Girl (Odd Year Remix)

The single off the album and a track I approach with a more “bare-bones” mentality.  This was done mostly with the bassline that runs throughout and minimal synths except for the chorus sections.  I am not a fan of the typical remix, i.e., just speed up the vocals or only use a snippet of vocals and then slam a house beat underneath.  I usually take the approach of  re-visioning  it and asking myself what I would do if I had Brian in the studio to record a new track.  I like the stark contrast of a deep bass with Brian’s voice and really wanted to highlight the melody he wrote for the chorus.  Hope you all enjoy.

Backseat:

I fell in love with Backseat off of Color Theory’s latest release, The Sound and when the  opportunity  arose to remix it, I couldn’t resist.  This track has the classic depeche mode melancholy  to which I wanted to do a more “widescreen” edition of.  Hence the rain and thunder efx on the track.

Exclusive: Color Theory – Extroverts at Play

“Extroverts at Play” is an Audio Drums exclusive from the new Color  Theory album, The Sound.  I love the Goldfrapp feel of this track with an  unrelenting and almost brooding bassline.  What completes this track is the chorus and the contempt of Brian’s voice as he sings, “If they would just shut up” — ya, i’m total agreement with Brian.

The Sound features 9 all-new originals and a cover  of a-ha’s classic “Living a Boy’s Adventure Tale.” Packaged in a  6-panel Digipak with original art by himitsuhana, the CD is limited to  1,000 copies worldwide and is available for pre-order at  colortheory.com.

In addition to the standard Limited Edition CD, Brian Hazard of Color  Theory is trying out something new: The Individual Edition CD. Hazard  describes it as follows:

“As a souvenir of your support, I will create a personalized custom CD  featuring unique mixdowns of each of the 12 songs I recorded for the  album. The outtakes “Touch” and “Release the Hounds” are not on the  standard Limited Edition CD and will not appear on any future physical  release. The disc will open with a token of my appreciation – a spoken  “thank you” mentioning you by name.”

Lyrics:

Extroverts at Play
©2010 Brian Hazard (ASCAP)

They don’t know what they believe
So we stare and nod as they think out loud
Trying our best to fit in
As we fight for breath in this stifling crowd
And the time races by when you’re having some fun
But it’s plodding along now at quarter to one
As the night tries our patience we’re hitting a wall
I sneak off to the side like I’m taking a call to observe

Extroverts at play
Egos run amuck
I’d like them well enough
If they would just shut up
But we will persevere
By sheer force of will
We’ll stoically endure
This social overkill

Maybe someday this will
Come to us more naturally but
Until then we’ll have to pretend

Tomorrow we’ll take the whole day
To recuperate in a private place
Sleeping or reading a book
Our resilience now is our saving grace
So just try to imagine, it’s not such a stretch
I’m the life of the party and it is the death of me
Here in my eyes you’re the belle of the ball
With the hint of a smile you enchant more than all of the…

We’ll hone our acting skills
Fake it ’til we make it baby
Until then we’ll have to pretend
