Always a good week when new Big Black Delta music drops especially when it’s his forth full length album aptly named ‘4’. My favorite tracks from Jonathan Bates (aka Big Black Delta) are the up beat tempo tracks with his vocals and a splash of melancholy. It’s those tracks that connect for me and ‘Vessel’ is one of them. ‘Vessel’ has a sweet undercurrent of sadness but locked in a lovely melody. Favorite line in the track ‘All I get are lessons, Through a broken heart’.
Big Black Delta – Canary
Big Black Delta has been a favorite of mine going back to 2013 with Side of the Road. Since then every time I see a new release come across I get excited since his particular brand of electronic / pop / rock that is full of life in a 3-demensional way. His latest is a bit more edgier than recent outings. Has a stronger rock electro vibe that runs throughout. Vocals are spot on as usual and the energy is high – think more Nine Inch Nails towards the end of the track.
Big Black Delta – It’s Ok
Big Black Delta is back with a powerful ELO-esque track titled, “It’s Ok”. I’ll let the description from the soundcloud player fill in the back story on this track:
The song ‘It’s OK’ was inspired by a series of difficult events that occurred during the year after Jon completed his tour on BBDLP1, the last Big Black Delta record. This included losing his father to a stroke, finding that all of his gear was stolen, and losing one of his best friends to cancer. Since going public with some of this news, Bates has been inundated with incredible kindness and thoughtful support from friends, musicians, fans and strangers alike. This song is a thank you. A gesture of gratitude to everyone who has been kind — and to the universe itself.
