Gravity Circus – Shuteye

This is the latest single from the duo Gravity Circus (Japanese Jimmy “Onibi” Nagaura Yabiko and Dutch German Ken “Toro” Luske). The track opens with up with a melancholy chord progression on acoustic guitar and Jimmy’s scratchy voice that is perfectly matched to the overall vibe. The track progresses to the chorus which is a blend of indie pop and electronica with it’s electronic textures that are tastefully placed. The melody of the chorus is beautiful as well as the ambience.

The song tells a tale of memories past that still haunt but with a yearning to let it be and to move forward.

Jackton – In This House

There is something about this track that immediately called back to smoke filled dance rooms in the summer. Has a Underworld esque vibe to the track and a bit of that UK energy rave sound. Kinda like a finding a missing Trainspotting soundtrack tune. Has that soaring horn lead that just jumps out and is coupled with a vocal sample in the distance. Jackton is music producer who currently resided in Scandinavia.

The Shadowboxers – Nothing Ever Does

This track showcases the vocal harmony of The Shadowboxers which is something of a trade mark for them. The music is more on the experimental side for R&B in the verse sections. This is not a bad thing and for me is what hooked me from the start. The chorus is on point and the vocal harmony reminds me Bee Gees. The music in the chorus is more on the disco side of the fence with the guitar and drums but has a modern flair with the drone-ish bassline. “Well the only thing that stays the same is that Nothing ever does” – love that line.
