Made up of Simon Lord (previously of Simian fame, whose band mates currently make up production duo Simian Mobile Disco), and Theo Keating (previously of The Wiseguys), inspired by producers like Daft Punk and Timbaland combined with Theo’s previous Djing experiences, the Black Ghosts offer a refreshing take on the arguably tired electro-rock genre.
80’s esque synth lines and a booty shake rhythm make this track. Ghosthustler is from Dentron, Texas and produces some get up and dance tracks. However, recently one member from the group has left (Alan Paloma), but Ghosthustler lives on and promises the following:
“With respect to Alan’s decision to leave the band, we’ve axed all the songs with his vocals. Don’t fret though!!! Look forward to our new single that will blow up on the scene in about 2 weeks. -Ghosthustler” (taken from their myspace page)
Formed in the early part of 05, Van She are a new band from Sydney. Unashamedly taking bits and bobs from 80’s post punk, funk and synth pop, 90’s grunge, French house, film scores, 70’s Krautrock and the latest collection of innovative artists like Tom Vek and M83, Van She are that unique beast that one was beginning to believe no longer existed – a band that takes all these influences from days gone but makes them sound unique, modern, and…. fresh. A lazy pastiche this isn’t.
Van She formed when Nick Routledge [vocals, guitar], Matt Van Schie , Michael Di Francesco and Tomek Archer [drums] all responded to an ad in Sydney’s Drum Media and arrived at an audition for a vocalist for a doom metal band with influences including Sepultura, Entombed, Black Skull and Phil Collins to find the whole thing was a sham. You could call it the result of Satan at work, or you could call it fate.
Since the chance meeting Van She have been playing out and about around Sydney, headlining their own shows and supporting the likes of The Presets and Wolf & Cub.
They’ve also been in the studio, the fruits of which we now see in the shape of a 6 track, self titled EP. Opener Mission acts as a gloomy but punchy entry point into the Van She world, while Kelly is like the epic, lovelorn cousin to The Presets’ Girl And The Sea. Sex City throbs and blips like a restless adolescent, and Survive is the greatest post post punk tune to make use of slap bass. Kelly Reprise blisses out for just a few seconds before Here With You brings us to a beautifully textured, melancholic close.
Ready Aim Fire is a Electro/Rock group made up of DJ/Producer Shaun Morris (aka Stakka) and Sage Rader. Part Depeche Mode, Postal Service, Underworld and Rock make up the ingredients for this track from Ready Aim Fire. This track is taken from their forthcoming album, “This Changes Nothing” due out May 27, 2008.
Not to be mistaken with The Sunday Drivers. Sunday Drivers are a Los Angeles based rock trio consisting of Brady Erickson on lead guitar and vocals, Marisa Dupuis on Bass and Bryan “Camaro” Zaebst on drums.
In 2007, Sunday Drivers saw the release of their first effort, the Archetypes EP. In spite of tracking and mixing sessions at studios in Canada and Los Angeles, Archetypes is ultimately a self-made album. In an effort that exemplified the principle of “coming full circle,” the 4 song EP was mixed in that same Hollywood apartment the band created the songs. Equally representing months of planning and moments of divine inspiration, the songs provide a perfect introduction to the band’s aesthetic and method, and (in line with it’s title) Archetypes sets the principle for a much larger set of tricks the trio has up their sleeve.
The Presets are an electronic two piece based from Sydney, Australia. The Presets have been one of the biggest indie bands for the past few years in the Sydney area touring and supporting many well known bands such as 2 Many DJ’s and Ladytron. Their debut LP Beams combines electro, rock, techno, pop and a handful of other genres together in a seamless manner. They’ve also released a series of EP’s ( 2003’s Blow Up EP, 2004’s Girl and the Sea EP ) prior to their debut LP. The song “Girl and the Sea” appeared on “The OC” and the duo began getting a lot of radio airtime soon afterwards.
The Presets are Julian Hamilton on Synth/keyboard/vocals and Kimberly Moyes on Drums. They list New Order among many others as influences.
Their song “Are You The One?” was used on the hit US reality show “So You Think You Can Dance?” in August 2007.
Somewhat of a cross between The Beatles (think White Album) and Creedence Clearwater Revival with a slight dash of The White Stripes lands Golden Animals. Tommy Eisner (Electric Guitar/Vocals) & Linda Beercoft (Drums/Vocals) sounds can be best described as Jangle guitars, Beatles-esque vocals, and a laid back vibe.
