MGMT is an electro-pop group from NY. This track is taken from their freshman outing called, “Oracular Spectacular”, which was released this January. This entire album is Phenomenal and worth every penny. The standout tracks for me are, “Time to Pretend” (with it’s buzzing bee lead synth line and lyrics: “Let’s make some music, make some money, find some models for wives…”) , “The Youth” (with it’s synth-orgrans and John Lennon-esque vocals), “Electric Feel” (hear for yourself), & “Kids” (for it’s joy division-esque feel).
Miss Kittin is back with a new full length title, “BatBox”, which hits the streets March 4th, 2008. This track has some what of a dark rock-esque bassline that rumbles through-out but also has a nice gothic feel to it all. I can’t get enough of her humming backing vocals on this track. I think I’ve listened to non-stop for the last two hours… time flies…
Gang of Four-ish bass line, vocoded vocals, disco-esque backbeat, with Rock feeling throughout is the decor for Shout Out Out Out Out’s, “Dude You Feel Electrical”. Kinda of hover in the space between Interpol and Daft Punk.
A couple members (Gravy and Lyle) of Shout Out Out Out Out also play in a banded called Whitey Houston.
Ok, I’m going back in time to 1997 for what many consider one of the very first electro-clash tracks called, “Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass” by I-F.
I-F (short for Inter-Ference; real name Ferenc E. van der Sluijs) is a producer and DJ based in The Hague, The Netherlands. He is a former member of the Dutch electro pioneers Unit Moebius. In 1997 he produced the track “Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass”, which became a huge underground dance hit and is often credited the earliest example of Electroclash, although I-F himself has been of critical interest in the Electroclash scene.
Talk about the 80’s references, how can you deny a song that actually samples the original He-Man intro of, “By the power of Gray Skull!!! and includes such lyrics as, “I want to dance with She-Ra”.All this is courtesy of the electroclash band, “Bondage Fairies”! And just like Kiss before them, they are never seen with their masks.
