Fun mid tempo electronic pop track from Chicago natives, “Walter Meego” This track came be found on their 2008 release, “Voyager”

Bio from thier wiki:

Justin Sconza and Colin Yarck met in college at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois. Justin grew up in Beverly on the south side of Chicago. In interviews he has said his style comes most from the Real Book as well as the entire catalogs of the Beatles and Nirvana.

Colin Yarck has said he is heavily influenced by the electronic music scene in Chicago. He started making beats with Pat Pelligrini in a basement in Park Ridge, IL, on the north side of Chicago. In 2003 Justin Sconza and Coln Yarck started making music under the name “Walter Meego”, a name for one of Justin’s alter egos.

In the summer of 2003, Justin is rumored to have made hundreds of songs and unfinished ideas on his four-track and put them together on audio cassettes entitled “Walter Meego”. A lot of people got them and they became hip in Chicago.

Justin, Colin and Pat recorded Walter Meego EP in the Park Ridge studio that fall. Starting in January of 2004, the three of them began performing regularly throughout Chicago under the name “Walter Meego.” The band enjoyed initial support from promoters at Chicago venues like Metro, the Empty Bottle and Double Door.

Following the release of “Walter Meego EP” in April of 2005, the UK’s Rough Trade, as well as Internet blogs like Music For Robots began to strongly support Walter Meego.

In the summer of 2005, Pat Pelligrini quit Walter Meego. Soon after, Jarrett Spiegel came on to replace him. After a string of shows and inner-band turmoil, Spiegel was replaced with Andrew Bernhardt in the summer of 2006, who currently performs live as a member of Walter Meego.

Milosh - You Make Me Feel

16 07 2008

Bio from last.fm:

Milosh’s (Toronto, Canada) first album, You Make Me Feel (“Top 10
Electronic Albums,” iTunes 2004), was a work reveling in the joys of new love. It celebrated everything from his girlfriend’s taste to her positive presence in his life. But then
they broke up. Recorded in the 12 months after his relationship’s collapse, Meme explores all facets of the newly-single male experience: heartache, loneliness, lust, guilt, soul searching, and eventually, romantic rebirth. Says Milosh, “It begins with ‘It’s Over,’ a song about my breakup with the girl ‘You Make Me Feel’ was about, and ends with ‘Run Away,’ about that need to get away from pain, from the dull routine of life, to be in a new place with my new girlfriend.” The truly fascinating and voyeuristic moments, however, happen in-between these two big life changes.
On “You Fill Me,” Milosh explores a casual sex experience, providing erotic imagery that is at turns sensual, violent, and spiritual. While much of the song delights in this orgasmic revelry, one can hear in Milosh’s voice a desire for something more, a penetration of not justskin, but soul.
On “The City,” Milosh reflects on his life so far with a hint of nostalgia. “The City was born out of a walk in old Montréal with one of my best friends from when I was young,” says Milosh. “It was really hot outside, the air was thick, the streets were poorly lit, and there was no one around us. The city felt almost empty. You get a really clear sense of the history of the city on nights like that for some reason. It got me thinking about my history, my life up til then, and whether or not I had
achieved the goals that I had set out for myself.”
These candid tales would only be half-victories without a worthy backdrop, though, and the music here never fails to impress. Milosh’s nuanced production subtly shades the emotional content of his lyrics, adeptly capturing every fluctuation in mood. Gliding on shuffling beats and post-Blade Runner keyboards, Meme fits comfortably alongside Junior Boys and Boards of Canada, using a broad electronic palette to frame experiences charged with raw feeling.
By album’s end, Milosh has come full circle, back in love with a new woman, the pain of his previous breakup seemingly erased. He puts it best himself when he sings, “These scars from lovers look like scratches from strangers.” These are deeply personal tales meant for discovery by present and future generations- generations bound to make the same mistakes and learn the same lessons in love.

Darren Hayes - Neverland

12 07 2008

If you took Andy Bell from Erasure and had him sing on a Frou Frou -esque track I imagine it would sound similar to this Darren Hayes track. Full of little bleeps, toy piano samples, and of course, strings. Simply wonderful…

Bio from Last.fm:

Darren Stanley Hayes (born 8 May 1972 in Brisbane, QLD) is an Australian singer-songwriter. He’s best known as the vocalist of the hugely popular 90’s duo Savage Garden, whose international hits includes “Truly Madly Deeply”, “I Want You” and “I Knew I Loved You”.

Hayes’ first solo album Spin was released in 2002, carrying on in the same musical vein as Savage Garden, with a less soft rock sound and more edgy R&B vibe, although the first single Insatiable was a ballad, reaching Number 3 in Australia. Other singles “Strange Relationship”, “Crush (1980 Me)” and “I Miss You” also performed well in charts.

Hayes spent two years working on his second solo album, The Tension and the Spark. Other than the track “I Forgive You” which was produced with Madonna collaborator Marius De Vries, the entire album was produced by Darren himself and Robert Conley (with whom he had previously toured and recorded Crush (1980 Me) for Spin). The album marked a bold change of direction from Hayes. Conley’s production was almost entirely electronic, with acoustic instruments buried under walls of sequenced sounds. Although artistically this was a huge step forward and earned Hayes the strongest praise of his career, it seemed to alienate a large portion of his audience who were expecting another album of radio friendly pop songs. The first single Pop!ular was released on July 12, 2004. This single reached Number One on the US Dance Charts, and fared well in the UK. His follow up single, Darkness, failed to chart, leaving Dublin Sky - the planned third release - in limbo. Ironically, “Dublin Sky” was considered by many to be one of the strongest and most accessible songs on the album and the most likely to be a hit.

Truly Madly Completely, Savage Gardens greatest hits album was released in late 2005 and featured two new songs - So Beautiful and California. The tour, ‘A Big Night In with Darren Hayes’ followed in 2006. In July 2006, Hayes announced that he had married his boyfriend of two years, Richard Cullen, in a Civil Partnership Ceremony.

Hayes released a double album, This Delicate Thing We’ve Made, on 20 August 2007 on his newly formed independent label ‘’Powdered Sugar’‘. “The record features 25 songs recorded with the help of a Vintage 1983 Fairlight CMI syth - a cinematic, theatrical and epic Pop Opus.” The first single to come from Hayes’ third album was On the Verge of Something Wonderful to be followed by Me, Myself And (I) later in 2007.

Phonique - The Passion with Kiloo

10 07 2008

Takent from mbeat:

Seldom does a track have such a story behind it as Kiloo & Phoniques ‚The Passion! It was three or four years ago in an online Deep-House forum that this warming tale began. Featured during a particularly on-form Laurent Garnier mix, came a track that immediately caused quite a stir. A whos who of Deep-House heads from Ame to Dixon were up in arms about this ‚phantom track, that no-one could place. Could it be an old undiscovered rarity that theyd all missed, or a new, unreleased, secret production…? Eventually, a track-listing was provided for Garniers mix, and the artist was revealed to be the little-known but instantly respected ‚Kiloo aka Pascal Saussac. Phoniques connection with the artist was forged after another of the newcomers tracks, ‚The Game of Love, was signed tothe Parisian label Plays Cool. Having already been well respected on the French house scene, Phonique was asked to remix the track and so their relationship grew. Originally, ‚The Passion was sent to Laurent Garniers F-Comm imprint, but remained unsigned, and so for a long time it had no home, however Phonique always believed that it deserved a platform for release to the world. Now in 2008, this hit, four-years-in-the-making, has been completely re-recorded by Phonique and his studio partner Alex Krüger, and Kiloos magical track is ready to start the message boards filling up once again! For the remixes, we remain happily within the Deep-House genre, as first choice remixers Trickski, who supported the first two Ladies & Gentlemen releases in almost every set, maintain their ‚Members of the Trick trademark style. They fill the role with a fine re-work that honours the original, and unfolds it into an intricately dubbed hypnotic journey. The second round of remix duties are beautifully fulfilled by long term pals Dplay and Manuel Tur. Originally part of those historic forum discussions years before, they have since risen through the ranks to become some of the most respected

Sidestepper - Papaya 07

6 07 2008

Classic track with some new spice thrown in for a fuller flavor.

Bio from last.fm:

Sidestepper began in 1997 as an electronic solo project, mixing English beats and bass with Latin sounds. Richard Blair had first come to Colombia in 1993 to work with renowned folk singer Toto La Momposina — the two had met at Peter Gabriel’s Real World studios where Richard worked as an engineer. He had planned to be there for a month, but stayed for two years, getting lost in Latin music culture. On returning to the UK he began to investigate how to create a new Latin bass line culture using modern beats and bass. The result was the first album, 1997’s ’Southern Star’ featuring the Latin drum and bass tune ‘Maine’. After meeting songwriter Ivan Benavides on the Carlos Vives record La tierra del Olvido, the two began to write together, producing the future club classic and sidestepper’s first vocal tune - ‘Logozo’ in 1997. A call came from Chris Blackwell’s Palm Pictures, and on signing the deal Richard returned to Colombia to make the next album. Again Ivan co-wrote and produced and ‘More Grip‘ was released in 2000, a homage to a salsa night out in Bogota.

Sidestepper began to play live for the first time, playing gigs in the UK and across Europe, at Glastonbury and Roskilde amongst many others, and Richard continued to dj in the UK and US. Meanwhile, writing work had begun on 3AM In Beats We Trust, as Richard travelled between London and NY where Ivan was living. The two recorded the core of the album in Bogota in 2002, some eventually unused sessions in Jamaica, with Cuban singer Ronald Infante in Havana, and mc’s Rubi Dan and Juxsi D in London. The mix was done in autumnal London, and 3AM was released to critical acclaim in 2003.

Richard returned to Bogota to form a live band that would be based in Colombia, and between old hands like Janio Coronado and Teto Ocampo, and new talent like Erika Munoz, a special magic has emerged with this incarnation of Sidestepper, which has been wowing audiences in Colombia, Mexico and the US for the last few years.

After touring extensively with the band, Ivan and Richard wanted to make a record written specifically for each member. The writing and original tracking were done at a farm outside Bogota, and mixing was done at a studio in the city. ‘Continental’ was released in Colombia in July 2006, and will be released in the rest of the world soon.

The current line up is - Janio Coronado, ‘Goyo’ Martinez, Erika Munoz - voices Ivan Benavides - electronics and voice, Teto Ocampo - guitar, Kike Egurrola - drums, Richard Blair - bass and beats
