The Pipettes resuscitate the very nostalgic sound of Phil Spector’s ’60’s girl group’s such as the Ronettes and The Cookies. This album was just rencently release here in the States but has been out for over a year in the UK.
I love, love this cover of Frank Sinatra and Nancy Sinatra’s “Somethin’ Stupid”. Devotchka pulls it off with a Johnny Cash swagger with Mexican infused instrumentation. This track can be found on the EP from Devotchka titled, “Curse Your Little Heart”
Based out ouf Aliso Viejo and having made more than 10 albums and several EP’s to thier name, Starflyer 59 is relatively unknown. However, this isn’t because of a lack of quality music. Their latest album My Island, released last year is a prime example of the a solid album from start to finish. You can read a review of it here at Allmusic.com
