Yes, a true mark of a great remix is when you prefer it to the original.    This is exactly what we have here with Fraction’s remix of Agoria’s track, “Heart Beating”.   It’s a more darker and sinister sounding version that just thumps away.

Agoria (aka Sebastian Devaud) is the co-found of the InFine label and has just recently released his full length album,”Impermanence”, from which this track originally was released.

Dark and almost early Bauhaus-esque is this reworking by Caribou.  Caribou grabs Virgo Four’s “It’s a Crime” and takes it to a darker and goth like cavern of sound.

Background on Virgo Four’s Limited Box Set: Resurrection

Resurrection is the follow up to the reissue of Virgo (Four)’s S/T album, which was released by Rush Hour in 2010. This album is a collection of unreleased tracks that were produced over a 6 year period between 1984 and 1990 in various home studios around Chicago. The tracks were selected from 100′s of 4-track tapes that had been untouched and unreleased all these years due to local record business politics and disinterest. These demo recordings have been restored and mastered for release. The CD release holds 15 tracks, while the limited edition vinyl box set contains 15 tracks, totalling a cool 30 tracks. Resurrection really shows the the rich, diverse and unique quality of Virgo Four, which leaves you wondering what impact they would have made on the (Chicago) house scene if they would have gotten released back in the day. For now we are really glad these gems have been unearthed and are proud to give Virgo Four the spotlight they so much deserve.

Funky smooth is the order of the day from Plastic Plates, this remix is pure sun.

I just completed this remix and thought it fit for sharing.  Over at indabamusic, they have the stems available for Paul Simon’s latest release, Love is Eternal Sacred Light, from which I grabbed the vocals tracks and left the rest to create this upbeat, dance floor friendly version.  As soon as I heard his vocals for this track, I could hear the remix I could work around them with.  I love the sound of Paul Simon’s voice set against an electronic backing track and push forward.  See what you all think…

Dark Sky here with a brilliant dub re-working of a huge hit from Nelly Furtado.   From intro to drop, this track sizzles and sounds killer on a loud system.  So crank it up and dance!

Don’t know if it’s just the late hour or too much green tea, but damn this thing sound hot.   Archie Cooper takes this track into the underbelly of the dark and sinister.  Loving the tickle of the bass in my headphones on this.

Chromeo – Night By Night (Gripped & Ripped – Archie Cooper Remix)

A beautifully dark track that gets a little help from Chase & Status.  Chase & Status give it a little dub step action mixed with UK 2-step.   Clare was inspired to write The Last Dance after the death of her hero.  Michael Jackson.   Clare reminds me at time of one my favorite vocalist, Annie Lennox.  Clare will be  releasing her album this February 28th.

William has a wonderful soft spoken voice that sits beautifully atop an electronic bed of warm currents produced by Pink Ganter.  This remix can be found on his 2010 release, ” Derivatives”.

Here is an older gem of a tune, this track from the now defunct Frou Frou was to be released as the b-side to their track, “It’s Good To Be In Love” but it was never released.  I also include a remix if an Imogen Heap track called “Aeroplane” that saw Imogen’s future collaborator, Guy Sigsworth, taking the helm.   This remix pre-dates the full length release from the duo.

Really into Monarchy and it’s been awhile from me in regard to listening to anything new from Benny Benassi, but that was taken care of as of today.  Benny Benassi takes Monarchy’s single, “Love Get Out Of My Way” into the “duck the bass” and trippy eq filtering land – a powerful and energetic combo.

In 2008 Mali duo Amadou & Mariam released their eight full length entitled, “Welcome to Mali”.  From that release came, “Sabali” and the latest remixer to tackle this track is Vitallic who sets the single into darker and more driving territory.

Cut Copy – Take Me Over (Flight Facilities Remix)

This RAC remix of “Walking On A Dream” is the best remix of this track and I think it’s just a hair better than the original itself. The sound of the kick on this track is to die for, quite envious.
