Tricky – Far Away

More of up straight up mellow rock track from Tricky’s latest effort titled, “Knowle West Boy”. I have had this track looping for about an hour now… 🙂

Bio from last.fm:

Adrian Thaws (born January 27, 1968), better known as Tricky, is an English rapper and musician important in the trip-hop and british music scene (despite loathing the “trip-hop” tag).

He is noted for an asthmatic whispering lyrical style that is half-rapped, half-sung. As a producer and a musician he is known for having an aversion to perfection preferring to build up a dark, rich and layered sound. Culturally, Tricky bridges white and black Britain particularly in his fusion of rock and hip-hop, high art and pop culture. He drew his influences from rap Public Enemy to post-punk (he covered a Siouxsie and the Banshees’s song Tattoo).

bio from last.fm:

Ladytron’s Biography

Ladytron is a contemporary electropop band based in Liverpool, England. The band takes their name from the song “Ladytron” on the 1972 self-titled debut album of the band Roxy Music.

Ladytron have been classified by press as an electroclash band, but they have never identified themselves with the scene. They said in a recent interview that they consider themselves as “Electronica with a fist”.

Ladytron is notable for not using sampling on their records or in their shows, instead playing everything live using synthesizers and their live performances include live guitar by Daniel Hunt, drums by Keith York and bass guitar by Andrea along with the synthesizers.

Ladytron’s lyrics are of a somewhat obscure nature, mostly dominated by banal images and snippets of everyday life, and sometimes written in Bulgarian by bulgarian band member Mira Aroyo.

Albums so far have focused on a balance between pop structures and a retro sound, and some more experimental leanings. Witching Hour saw a beefing up of their sound, leading the album to be described by Pitchfork as a “quantum leap record”.

Originally, Ladytron were known to perform in monochromatic military uniform-inspired outfits of black or olive drab, lending an edge of simplicity and asexuality to their stage presence.

Since the release of Witching Hour, the band seems to have abandoned military chic in favour of futuristic, Blade Runner-inspired fashions. Marnie and Aroyo have tended to wear futuristic, goth-style dresses while Wu and Hunt wear T-shirts and jeans.

Ladytron is now in Paris, recording their forthcoming album, which is being produced by Vicarious Bliss.

Here’s a little something to kick off the weekend right!

Love the church-esque keyboard sound on this track around the 4:00 minute mark.

Last.fm bio:

Made up of Simon Lord (previously of Simian fame, whose band mates currently make up production duo Simian Mobile Disco), and Theo Keating (previously of The Wiseguys), inspired by producers like Daft Punk and Timbaland combined with Theo’s previous Djing experiences, the Black Ghosts offer a refreshing take on the arguably tired electro-rock genre.
