So very-very cool of Gigamesh to take this Katy B track and give it that old school electro flavor.   The intro is brilliant, and Gigamesh gives it old school vibe mixed with modern moves that makes it refreshing.  I can’t wait to hear Gigamesh’s first EP

Slight bent toward the 80′s but still manages to keep a foot in the present sound.  Get Shakes can also be imagined in the lien of LCD Soundsystems, in terms of style and sound.

Charming 8-bit melody kicks off the track with the persistent ”Bounce” said on the down beat, which is quite addictive.   Then explodes in full synth glory, with the lead soaring over the bead of house beats.  Also dig the retro flavor cover art  as seen above.

Off of Benny’s latest release, “Electroman” is sweet slice of electrohouse which features the soulful voice of Gary Go.  Gary Go is an automatic love to collab with Benny for me.  There are other collaborations on the new album, which are very mainstream oriented and not really my cup of tea, like  T-Pain on the title track, “Electroman”.    However the brightest points on the album are all three tracks that feature Gary Go – most definitely there is a chemistry there between the two of them.

This track takes me back to school ground break dancing sessions.  In middle school, this really amounted to kids spinning on their head or pop locking at lunch break but was always a highlight to my day in school.  You Dropped  A Bomb on Me was released back in 1982 and reached reached #2 on the Billboard R&B charts.  This is classic example of merging funk with electro.

Named after the 2010  Chinese New Year, Year of The Tiger sent a sultry electro track that reminds me of one of my beloved Goldfrapp’s tracks, “Strict Machine” but with more of a rock edge to it.

Year of The Tiger is Sable & Henry who appear to have only started producing music together since December of 09.  In a word, “WOW”.   Excellent production adorns all their tracks, and Sable’s voice has that bit of edge that I always love from a vocalist.   You don’t know if she wants to beat you up or wants to seduce you, but either way it’s going to be exciting.

Dada Life is the brainchild of Stockholm-based Olle Corneer and Stefan Engblom. In the summer 2006, Dada Life released “Big Time” on Mylo’s Breastfed label and DJs all over got their first taste of the duo. Since then, there has been a steady stream of hit records from “The Great Fashionista Swindle,” “Vote Yes” and “Fun Fun Fun” to this spring’s “Happy Hands And Happy Feet” EP. Dada Life’s music is adored by both an eclectic mix of DJ talent – including David Guetta, Tiësto, Eric Prydz, Altern 8, Crookers and Don Rimini – and some of the most discerning underground tastemakers in the world (check out some of the quotes below).

Conceptually, Dada Life was inspired by the Dada cultural movement that originally began in Zurich during World War 1. “We don’t want to be perceived as arty, but we like the anti-ideas and f*ck-off-attitude of Dada. We have just taken the word Dada and filled it with whatever we like. Like the title track “Just Do The Dada” – it doesn’t really mean anything specific. That’s also the ideas we want to communicate – the basic concept of Dada Life – anti-everything, f*ck-all, but still not pinpointed. Everybody can do the Dada. But no one really knows what it is. All this has been the idea from the start. Hence older titles “This Machine Kills Breakfasts”, “Vote Yes” and “The Great Fashionista Swindle” and new tracks created for the album “Let’s Get Bleeped Tonight” and “Happy Hands & Happy Feet.” There’s a certain attitude to Dada Life, but it’s not specific,” Corneer explains.

When performing as a live act Dada Life is one box of bananas, a couple of bottles of Champagne and a lot of sweat and broken equipment. On the other hand, Dada Life DJ-gigs tend to go the same way with an MPC and some controllers that enable the boys to play around with samples and loops even when they DJ. They also constantly produce their own remixes/edits of good tunes in order to have something unique to play during the sets. North American audiences will experience this firsthand when Dada Life takes to the States for a full tour later this summer / early fall!

The wunderkind James Holden has finally come of age, and has delivered up the debut album to prove it: and at 28, about time too! For although the world seems strangely intent on fixing him in his early twenties (or more specifically, a series of internet sites who have seemingly overlooked the fact that biography ages require a yearly update!), the time has come to acknowledge that DJ and producer James Holden is not quite so young anymore. The timely release of Holden’s ‘The Idiots Are Winning’ mini-album in 2006 marked the occasion, and formed a fitting musical illustration of Holden’s new-found maturity.

Still reluctant to bestow upon it the accolade of ‘debut album’, for Holden himself ‘The Idiots Are Winning’ remains an EP which grew out of control: take four dancefloor-length Holden tracks, mix in the obligatory DJ tools and alternative versions that he is so keen on, and an interlude or two for good measure, and you have far exceeded the single realm and are pushing into album territory. Not that the manner of its creation should affect the listening experience: Holden’s intricate and inimitable production style ensures a coherence of atmosphere, where even DJ-friendly extended intros hold up to home-listening scrutiny. The Guardian went so far as to proclaim it “the most astonishing debut in electronic music since Boards of Canada’s Music Has the Right to Children.” And who are we to argue?
