Empire of the Sun – Walking on a Dream

OK I have to admit I breezed by this track last year when I first took a listen to the entire Empire of the Sun album and thought it was ok, but not exactly my thing.  With that said, I must have subconsciously liked it enough to have added it to my ipod and boy has this song just grown on me.  The chorus just sticks and plays like a warm summer sun setting, leaving a warm glow after sunset.   Spectacular.

Empire of the Sun – Walking on a Dream

lyrics:

Walking on a dream
How can I explain
Talking to myself
Will I see again

We are always running for the thrill of it thrill of it
Always pushing up the hill searching for the thrill of it
On and on and on we are calling out and out again
Never looking down I’m just in awe of what’s in front of me

Is it real now
When two people become one
I can feel it
When two people become one

Thought I’d never see
The love you found in me
Now it’s changing all the time
Living in a rhythm where the minutes working overtime

Catch me I’m falling down
Catch me I’m falling down

Don’t stop just keep going on
I’m your shoulder lean upon
So come on deliver from inside
All we got is tonight that is right till first light

New: Simian Mobile Disco – Audacity of Huge (ft. Chris Keating)

27 05 2009

simianmobiledisco

Oh… this is so good, reminds me of the old school house tunes I use to hear in the backyard parties that were thrown by  “party crews”, which also seemed to have the worst kind of beer ever, but some great tunes blasting through out the night.

As it is,  I’m really looking forward to SMD’s new album, “Temporary Pleasure” which is due out August 17th.  And if you look at the track list, looks to be a solid line up.

01. Cream Dream (feat. Gruff Rhys) [Super Furry Animals / Neon Neon]
02. Simian Mobile Disco – Audacity of Huge (feat. Chris Keating) [Yeasayer lead singer]
03. 10000 Horses Can’t Be Wrong
04. Cruel Intentions (feat. Beth Ditto) [Gossip lead singer]
05. Off The Map (feat. Jamie Lidell) [Super Collider lead singer]
06. Synthesise
07. Bad Blood (feat. Alexis Taylor) [Hot Chip lead singer]
08. Turn Up The Dial (feat. Young Fathers)
09. Ambulance
10. Pinball (feat. Telepathe)

A track for the early evening to get you going for a joyous night out.  Smooth and  moving similar to Everything but the Girl, with a bit more house vibe on it.  Seb is based in the UK and is set to release several remixes of this track on beatport.

Archangel – Square One

23 05 2009

arch
Found this in my inbox, imagine Howard Jones playful synths meets Feist’s piano goodness and a pinch of edginess.

Press Release:

Archangel is the brainchild of Nick Webber, a young man with a strong will and a warped imagination, who spent a year and a half going quietly mad in the wilds of Wiltshire as he recorded his masterpiece aka the soundtrack of his life. He wrote, performed, recorded and produced his debut album himself in a self-built studio in Wiltshire. The result is a collection of songs which draw influence from sources as wide ranging as Roxy Music, Kraftwerk, The Associates, Motown, Bowie, INXS and Arcade Fire.

Current single “Do It Again” available to download from iTunes now, here’s the video:

Debut album “How To Lose Your Best Friend” will be released in August 2009

Zeigeist – Tar Heart

21 05 2009

zeigeist
This track sounds a whole lot like the Knife meets Kate Bush’s “Running up that Hill.”  You can add Ziegeist to collection of artists and bands that seem to be coming out of the wood work from  Sweden.  For example, The Deer Tracks, Lykke Li, and The Sounds to name a few.   Unfortunately for us, Zeigeist have called it quits as of February 2009:

During the past years, we have put more and more love into Zeigeist, fed her like the Queen she have been. At the end of the day, she has demanded all love within us. We have our personal reasons to kill her.

The release of our next single/EP, “The Neverending Love”, a cover of Roxette’s first single, our first cover, will be moved to tomorrow (5th Feb). The EP also contents “Chasing your shadow all around the world” and a remix of “Humanitarianism” by the Twelves. With this EP, we call it a day. This is the end of Zeigeist. The Queen is dead.

So we raise our glasses, make a toast, a toast in your honor, and tell you this: The search continues. We’re going to find out about the Never. Ending. Love.

With thanks to all our fans

Remixes: Pixie Lott – Mama Do (Linus Loves Radio Edit Remix)

linusloves

Linus Loves has taken a very straight up top 40 pop track  and given it some edge with his remix.  Has a little bit of that late 90’s UK garage sound on the track.

Another remix I’ve been playing quite a bit of is Calvin Harris’s remix of Passion Pit’s, “The Reeling”.  Calvin has take a more of a funky house approach to the track.

I also really dig most of Kleerup’s production including this remix of Chris Cornell’s “Come to Me”
