Antony and the Johnsons – Sing For Me

30 09 2008

From their forthcoming EP titled “Another World”, comes this very heart felt song by Antony and the Johnsons.

Below is the press release:

Antony and the Johnsons emerged onto the international stage in 2005 with their breakthrough I Am A Bird Now. The group were awarded the Mercury Prize in the UK and toured the world. Since then Antony has participated on tracks with Bjork on her latest album “Volta”, appeared in the Leonard Cohen documentary “I’m Your Man”, featured as vocalist with disco act Hercules and Love Affair, recorded for the Todd Haynes bio epic of Bob Dylan “I’m Not There”, and collaborated with Charles Atlas on a European tour of their stage spectacle “TURNING”.

Now Antony and the Johnsons have emerged with a new album, ‘The Crying Light’ which will be released January 21st 2009. “Another World” is the first single, and it will be released as part of the five-song Another World EP which is being released on October 7th.

On “Another World”, Antony sings of a disappearing world. The EP also includes “Shake That Devil”. Part exorcism and part Shangri La, Antony calls out shape-shifting perpetrators and banishes them one by one. Two other songs, “Crackagen” and “Sing For Me” are pastoral and surreal. Finally the epic “Hope Mountain” closes the EP, an episodic narrative set after a flood; people gather on a mountain to witness the emergence of a luminous girl.

The cover features a portrait of Japanese Butoh co-founder Kazuo Ohno, taken by Pierre-Olivier Deschamps in 1984.

Deadmau5 – Alone with you (Original Mix)

29 09 2008

Deadmau5 (pronounced dead mouse – aka Joel Zimmerman) has been producing and remixing music sine 2005.  Joel, who hails from Toronto Canada, has just released his first studio album this month entitled, “Random Album Title”.

From Discogs:

Born and raised in Ontario, Canada, Joel Zimmerman is also known as “deadmau5” or “Halcyon441″

Deadmau5 is a Progressive House/Minimal Trance and Techno producer and DJ.Deadmau5 was called the most notable producer for 2007 by Tiësto and Armin Van Buuren.

Deadmau5 was introduced to the world February 2007 when a copy of “Faxing Berlin” found its way to the hands of the radio show host Pete Tong. Eulogies – Two Can Play (ft. Nikki from Silversun Pickups)

24 09 2008

Here’s a lovely song for a lovely day (espically when that day is my daughter’s 7th b-day :)   This sounds like a mild summer day, laying on grass and making shapes out of clouds.

This song from Eulogies can found on the forthcoming EP due out October 7th, followed by a full length titled, “Here Anonymous” in Spring 09.

Mirah – La Familia (Guy Sigsworth Remix)

23 09 2008

From one of my all time favorite producers comes a great electronic remix.  For those who are unfamiliar with the name of Guy Sigsworth, I’m sure you’ve heard his work if your an avid listener to electronic music.  He’s probably best know as half of Frou Frou (other half of course being Imogen Heap), but here are just a few of the songs he’s produced and/or co-written:

Seal  – Carzy (1991)
Bjork – Isobel (1995)
Bjork – All is Full of Love (1997)
Madonna – What It Feels Like For A Girl (2000)
Lamb -  Gabriel (2001)
Frou Frou – [entire album:Details] (2002)
Kate Havnevik – Unlike Me (2006)
Temposhark – It’s Better To Have Loved (2007)
Alanis Morissette – [entire album: Flavors of Entanglement] (2008)

Mirah – La Familia (Guy Sigsworth Remix)

taken from Guy’s myspace page:

“”La Familia” is a song by Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn, who lives in Oregon. I’ve been a fan of Mirah’s since hearing one of her songs late night on XFM about five years ago – and here I am remixing it specially for her forthcoming remix album”

Her remix album, Joyride: Remixes, was released back in 2006.

DJ Cam – La 4eme Dimension

20 09 2008

Here’s a cool down tempo jam for the after party — from Frenchman DJ CAM (aka Laurent Daumail).  This is from his last album released in 2007 called “Lost and Found”

From Last.fm:

Parisian hip-hop devotee Laurent Daumail is one of a few but growing number of French artists updating hip-hop for the chill-out crowd, drawing on the beats’n’samples groundwork of producers such as Rakim, DJ Premier, and Prince Paul and combining it with broad, impressionistic strokes of dub, jazz, and soundtrack-y ambience. Like countrymen the Mighty Bop and la Funk Mob, Cam is stylistically closest to Mo’Wax artists such as DJ Shadow and DJ Krush; minimalist, downbeat instrumental hip-hop built from obscure samples and stomp-box turntable accompaniment, bent and twisted into new, artfully arranged compositions.

His debut, 1994’s Underground Vibes, was released on the tiny French label Street Jazz and was followed by a live recording for the Inflammable imprint (one of only a few “live” recordings in a genre so reliant on the temporal concessions of the recording studio). Dubbed Underground Live, the album featured performed extrapolations of many of the tracks from his debut, as well as a few new and improvised tracks. Now nearly impossible to find, those first two albums were reissued in America by Shadow Records, packaged together as the single-CD priced Mad Blunted Jazz (particularly useful since acquiring both on import could run more than 50 dollars!).

Although Cam’s music has found little acceptance in his home country, audiences in the U.K., Japan, and America have begun picking up on his style. In 1996 Cam was featured on, among many others, the sprawling Mo’Wax compilation Headz 2, remixed tracks for such artists as Tek 9 and la Funk Mob, and most recently collaborated on live and in-studio projects with Snooze and DJ Krush (he co-wrote a few tracks on the latter’s 1997 Mo’Wax release, Mi Sound).

Little Boots – Stuck on Repeat

19 09 2008

This is song is sooooo good, I can’t believe I just found this — better late than never. Little Boots is the solo project of Victoria Hesketh, formely lead singer/ synth player in Dead Disco.  This particular track reminds of Roisin Murphy (lead singer from Moloko).

Side Note: ‘Stuck on Repeat’ was produced by Joe Goddard from Hot Chip.

Little Boots is currently working on more tracks with Joe Goddard, and with Greg Kurstin of The Bird and the Bee.
